Design the listing detail screen

The listing detail screen is where a user lands the moment they tap a single listing, event, or product — so it’s worth getting right. It’s built from stacked content sections (address, description, business hours, social media, events, and so on) plus some optional chrome: a recap summary at the top, a reviews block, and a likes counter. This guide walks you through the App Settings controls that shape that screen.

Goal

Configure the appearance and content of a single listing’s detail screen — its background color, whether list sections can be collapsed, whether the recap summary appears, and whether reviews and likes are shown.

Prerequisites

  • A MAM Suite app with mam-main active.
  • At least one listing content type configured (typically via mam-geodirectory), so you have a detail screen to preview.
  • For reviews: the reviews feature available in your build (see Related). For likes: the likes/favorites feature available in your build.
  • Access to Mobile App Manager → App Settings, with permission to edit the Listings setting group.
  • A way to preview — the live app or your preview build — to confirm each change.

How the detail screen is put together

Before you start flipping settings, it helps to know the three layers you’re working with:

  1. The content sections are the body of the screen — address, description, business hours, social media, linked events, and more. Which sections appear, their order, and their titles are configured per content type under App Settings → Layouts → {Content type} → Detail, not on the settings screens below. The settings in this guide shape the chrome around those sections, not the sections themselves. See Listing detail content sections for the section catalog.
  2. The recap section is an optional summary block that sits at the very top of the detail screen.
  3. Reviews and likes are optional engagement elements layered onto the screen.

Every setting below lives in the Listings group of App Settings.

Steps

1. Set the detail screen background color

  1. Go to App Settings and open the Listings group.
  2. Find Detail item background color (listing_detail_background_color).
  3. Pick the background color for the single-listing detail page — it defaults to white (#ffffff).

Think of this as the canvas behind every content section on the page. It’s specific to the detail screen: the listing index has its own separate background color setting, so changing one won’t touch the other.

Tip: If you want a flatter look without the Material drop shadow on the detail screen, turn on Hide Elevation on detail screen? (no_elevation_on_radius) in the Listings group.

2. Decide whether sections can collapse

  1. In the Listings group, find Collapse Section on Touch (collapse_sections).
  2. Turn it on to let users collapse and expand list sections by tapping the section header. Turn it off to keep every section permanently expanded.

Turn this on when a detail screen carries several long sections — business hours, a lengthy description, a list of events — and you want users to be able to fold away the ones they aren’t reading.

3. Show or hide the recap section

  1. In the Listings group, find Hide recap section at top of listing detail (directory_detail_hide_recap_section).
  2. Leave it off to show the recap summary block at the top of the detail screen. Turn it on to hide it.

The recap is the summary strip sitting above the content sections. Hide it when the listing’s first content section already works as the introduction — the recap would just repeat it.

4. Turn reviews on (and tune how they look)

  1. In the Listings group, find Enable Reviews? (listing_show_reviews) and turn it on to add reviews to listings.
  2. From there, you can optionally tune the related review controls in the same group:
    • Show Reviews on Homescreen? (listing_show_homescreen_reviews) — puts reviews on the home screen too, not just the detail screen.
    • Hide Review stars? (listing_hide_stars) — hides the star rating display.
    • Custom Review Star Image Map (ratings_custom_star_image_map) — replaces the default stars with your own icons.
    • Review Layout ID (review_layout_id) — selects which layout template renders each review row.

Submission settings — which form is used, whether reviews auto-approve, itemized review categories — live in the reviews configuration guide (see Related). This step only covers whether reviews show up on the detail screen and how they look there.

5. Turn likes on

  1. In the Listings group, find Show Likes on Detail Screen? (listing_show_likes).
  2. Turn it on to display the likes count on the listing detail screen.
  3. Optionally style the likes element with Likes background color? (listing_background_color) and Likes text color? (listing_text_color), both in the Listings group.

Note: Likes and Favorites are two different things. The favorites (heart) control has its own separate setting — Hide Favorites (listing_hide_favorites).

6. Fine-tune the rest of the detail chrome (optional)

The Listings group holds a handful more detail-screen toggles worth a look:

  • Scrolling Featured Image (scrolling_featured_image) — animates/parallax-scrolls the featured image at the top instead of leaving it static.
  • Hide titles on detail screen bottom tabbar? (hide_titles_for_tabs_on_detail) — shows icons only on the detail screen’s bottom tab bar.
  • Header titles inside Content View? (show_header_title_in_view) — renders the header title inside the content body rather than in the navigation bar.
  • Hide Tap to Zoom feature on images? (hide_detail_image_help_tip) — removes the “Tap to Zoom” help tip from detail images. The hint’s text color is set by Tap to Zoom text color (zoom_image_message_text).
  • Show sharing button (listing_sharing_button) — adds a share button to the listing.

7. Save and preview

  1. Save your App Settings changes.
  2. Open the app (or your preview build) and navigate into a single listing.
  3. Confirm the background color, collapsible behavior, recap visibility, and the reviews/likes blocks all look the way you expect. If section order or content seems off, that’s usually a Layouts matter, not something controlled from these screens — see the note above.

Notes and gotchas

  • Sections vs. settings. The settings in this guide won’t add, remove, or reorder content sections. To change which sections appear (address, hours, events, etc.), their order, or their titles, head to App Settings → Layouts → {Content type} → Detail.
  • Likes ≠ Favorites. listing_show_likes controls the public likes counter, while listing_hide_favorites controls the per-user heart/favorite control — two separate features.
  • Detail vs. index background. listing_detail_background_color (labeled Detail item background color) sets the detail screen’s background only — the listing index screen uses its own separate background color setting, so changing one won’t touch the other.
  • Listing detail content sections — the catalog of section types that make up the detail screen body, and how each is built.
  • Listing tab bar buttons — the action buttons on the detail screen.
  • Configure reviews — review submission form, auto-approval, and itemized review categories.
  • Mobile listing data shape — the data the app receives for each listing.

What’s next

Once the detail screen looks right, head to the Layouts editor to arrange the content sections themselves, then to the listing index screen to shape how listings appear before a user taps in.
