MAM GamiPress connects GamiPress to your MAM app. Members see their level and progress in the app, using the points and ranks you set up in GamiPress. When GamiPress is not active, the plugin does nothing and the app is unaffected.
What it adds to your app
- Progress meter on the Home screen. Fills as the member earns points toward their next rank.
- A color per rank. Each GamiPress rank gets an app meter color field on its edit screen (Rank Data box). The meter uses the color of the rank the member is at.
- Rank on the profile. The member’s current rank shown under their name.
- Levels list. Tapping the rank or the meter opens a list of every rank and what it takes to reach it.
- Level on community profiles. With MAM BuddyPress, each member’s profile can show their level (rank title, color and image). Tapping it opens the levels list with that member’s level highlighted as “Their level”.
- Points for app activity. MAM plugins can declare app events (for example a check-in) that appear in GamiPress as activity triggers, so you can award points, ranks and achievements for them. Points, limits and rewards are set in GamiPress.
- How to earn. The levels list can also show the member’s points, how far they are from the next level, and every way to earn points, built from your GamiPress points awards (title, points, and how often it pays). Change an award in GamiPress and the app follows.
- Points history. Every points award and deduction and each achievement earned, newest first. With a rolling level window, points older than the window are greyed out and marked “no longer counts”.
- Achievements. Every published achievement with its image: earned ones with the date, locked ones greyed out with how to earn them (step titles, or the points or rank it needs) and the points they pay. Hidden achievements appear once earned.
- Leaderboards. With the GamiPress Leaderboards add-on, a “GamiPress Leaderboard” button (left menu or tab) shows your published leaderboards, one tab each, ranked exactly as on the website. The member sees their own position first; tapping a member opens their community profile.
- Achievement notifications. A push notification when a member earns an achievement. Tapping it opens the achievements screen.
- Rewards wallet and vouchers. Members spend points on rewards you set up in GamiPress (for example a free drink). Each unlocked reward becomes a voucher under My vouchers; the member slides to redeem it in front of staff, and the app shows a proof screen with the time and a code. Every redemption is listed under Mobile App Manager > Reward Redemptions. See the recipe “Set up a rewards wallet with vouchers”.
- Invite reward for both players. With MAM BuddyPress check-ins, when a friend a member invited checks in for the first time, both get the reward you choose, with a push to each.
- Check-in events. With MAM BuddyPress check-ins, GamiPress gets triggers for checking in to a session, checking in to a session in a given event category, hosting a table and a friend you invited checking in. See the recipe “Award badges for check-ins”.
- Badges on community profiles. With MAM BuddyPress, each member’s profile can show the achievements they have earned.
- Level-up notifications. A push when the member’s app level goes up (“Gamipress – User reached a new level” on the Notifications screen, push on by default). Tapping it opens the levels list. The first level the plugin sees for a member is recorded without a push.
Settings
Mobile App Manager > GamiPress:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Enable home-screen progress meter | Shows the meter on the Home screen |
| Assign lowest rank on first sight | Gives members without a rank the lowest one, so the meter has a starting point |
| Show rank title as profile subtitle | Shows the rank under the member’s name |
| Tap the level or meter to open the levels list | Turns on the levels list |
| Show each member’s level on their community profile | Adds the member’s level to their MAM BuddyPress profile (off by default). Members without a rank show no level. Tapping it opens the levels list when that is on. |
| Points type slug / Rank type slug | Which GamiPress points type and rank type the meter follows |
| Meter label template / Max-rank label template | The text on the meter, and the text once the top rank is reached |
| Track color / Label text color | Colors of the empty part of the meter and of its label |
| Level bar counts | Points balance (default): the level follows the GamiPress balance, so spending points lowers the meter. Lifetime points earned: the balance plus every point the member has spent (unlock with points, the rewards wallet), so spending never lowers the meter, the level or “N more to reach”. A rank already awarded never drops. Points you add or remove by hand count either way |
| Profile subtitle format | How the rank appears under the member’s name |
| Levels list also shows the member’s points and how to earn points | The “Your points” and “How to earn” sections on the levels list |
| Points history screen | Turns on points history (opens from the member’s points on the levels list) |
| Achievements screen | Turns on the achievements screen (opens from the levels list and the achievement push) |
| Points history / Achievements screen title | Screen titles. The achievements title defaults to your achievement type’s name (for example “Medals”) |
| Check-in events | Adds the check-in triggers to GamiPress (off by default) |
| Rewards wallet | Turns on the rewards wallet, vouchers and the redemption log (off by default) |
| Rewards achievement type slug | The GamiPress achievement type that holds your rewards (for example reward). While the wallet is on, this type is left out of the achievements screen and profile badges |
| Rewards screen title / Redeem slider text / Redeem screen note for staff | Texts on the wallet and the redeem screen. Defaults: “Rewards”, “Slide to redeem”, “Show this screen to a staff member” |
| Invite reward for both players | The reward (or any achievement) both players get when an invited friend first checks in. “None” turns it off |
| Show each member’s earned achievements as badges | Adds earned achievements to the member’s MAM BuddyPress profile (off by default) |
The how to earn, history, achievements and leaderboard screens need an app version with the updated list screen; older app versions keep the plain levels list.
After adding achievements or steps, clear the GamiPress cache (GamiPress > Settings > Clear cache) so new steps start counting.
Rolling level window (optional)
By default the app level follows the member’s GamiPress points balance, which only goes up. A site can instead make the level a rolling status: a developer sets the number of months with the mam_gamipress_rolling_window_months filter (for example 12). With a window on:
- The level, the meter, the levels list and the profile level count only points the member earned in the last N months: GamiPress points awards (triggers), plus daily rewards, codes and timed rewards from the GamiPress add-ons below. Points older than that stop counting, so a member’s app level can go down.
- Points given or taken by hand (admin balance edits, Bulk Awards, imports, direct API awards and deductions) do not change the app level, because GamiPress does not record them as dated awards.
- The rank GamiPress itself awards still follows the full balance and never goes down, so the GamiPress admin can show a higher rank than the app.
A rolling window takes priority over the “Level bar counts” setting. Spending points never lowers a rolling level, because only earned points are counted.
GamiPress add-ons in the app
Five premium GamiPress add-ons can show up in the app. Each has its own setting under GamiPress Add-ons on the settings page (all off by default) and does nothing until its add-on is installed and active. They appear under “Your points” on the levels list, so the setting “Levels list also shows the member’s points and how to earn points” must be on. They need the newest app version (list screen with tap-to-claim and share); older apps do not show them.
| Add-on | What members see in the app | What you set up in GamiPress |
|---|---|---|
| Submissions | On the achievements screen, a locked achievement that takes submissions shows Claim. The member writes how they earned it and sends it. Until you decide, it shows Pending. | On the achievement, turn on Submissions. Approve or reject claims under GamiPress > Submissions. Turn on auto-approve to award it straight away. Claims work for achievements only, not ranks. |
| Coupons | Redeem a code on the levels list. The member types the code and sees what it gave (for example “You got 5 Beer Points”). Shows while at least one code is active. | Create codes under GamiPress > Coupons: rewards, start and end dates, total uses, uses per member, and which roles or members may use it. |
| Daily Login Rewards | Opening the app counts as the day’s login (once a day). Daily rewards opens the calendar: each day’s reward, the days already earned with their date, and when the next one comes. With more than one calendar, each gets a tab. | Create a rewards calendar with one reward per day. If you require consecutive days, the screen tells members that missing a day starts them again at day 1. Make it repeatable to start over after the last day. |
| Time-based Rewards | Rewards to claim lists each reward: Ready to claim with a tap, or greyed out with “Ready in 3h 12m”. Claiming shows what the member won. | Create a time-based reward with a recurrence (for example 168 hours for weekly) and its possible rewards (points with a minimum and maximum, achievements, ranks). The first claim opens one recurrence after the reward is published. |
| Referrals | Invite friends: the member’s invite link with a Share button, the number of friends who joined, visits to the link (and purchases, with WooCommerce), and how invites pay (your points awards on the Referrals triggers). A push “Your friend joined” goes to the member when someone signs up from their link. | Set the link parameter and affiliate settings under GamiPress > Settings > Referrals. Add points awards on the Referrals triggers to pay for invites. The push is “Gamipress – A friend joined from the member’s invite link” on the Notifications screen (push on by default). |
Notes:
- Friends who sign up on the website from the link are counted. Signups inside the app are not linked to the member who invited them yet.
- Points from daily rewards, codes and timed rewards show in points history and count toward the level, including a rolling level window. Points you add by hand still do not.
- Each add-on is supported at the version it was tested with (Submissions 1.1.x, Coupons 1.1.x, Daily Login Rewards 1.2.x, Time-based Rewards 1.1.x, Referrals 1.1.x). After a bigger add-on update, its app entries switch off until MAM GamiPress is updated for it.
- After adding achievements or steps, clear the GamiPress cache (GamiPress > Settings > Clear cache).
