Add Social Media buttons and set your account URLs

Goal

Add one or more Social Media buttons to your app and point each one at the right account. A tap should take the user straight to your Facebook page, Instagram profile, LinkedIn page, Pinterest, X (Twitter), YouTube channel, or main Website — whichever button they touch.

Two things need to happen before a button will work, and you need both:

  1. Set your account URLs — enter each social network’s address (or handle) once, in the Social Media settings panel.
  2. Add a Social Media button — place a button on the home screen or left menu and tell it which network to link to.

A Social Media button only appears in the app once its matching account URL is filled in. Add the button without the URL, or fill in the URL without adding the button, and you’ll end up with nothing visible.

Before you start

  • Where you work. Everything here lives in the WordPress admin, under Mobile App Mgr → App Setup. No code, no app rebuild — these settings are stored as app content and pushed to the live app the moment you publish.
  • No app rebuild needed. Changing a URL or adding a button is an app-content change, not a code change. Publish (or push) your app config, and it reaches devices — no app-store resubmission required.
  • Have your profile URLs handy. For most networks, you’ll only type the part after a fixed prefix — your username or page name. Website is the exception: you enter the full address. See the table below.
  • A note on naming. The UI labels below match a standard install. Yours might word one slightly differently, but the flow is the same.

Supported networks

Network What you enter Prefix shown in the field
Facebook Your page/profile name https://www.facebook.com/
Instagram Your handle https://www.instagram.com/
LinkedIn Your company page slug https://www.linkedin.com/company/
Pinterest Your username https://www.pinterest.com/
X (Twitter) Your handle https://www.twitter.com/
YouTube Your channel/user name http://www.youtube.com/user/
Website The full URL (none — type the whole address, e.g. http://...)

For every network except Website, the panel shows the fixed prefix to the left of the entry box — so you only type what comes after it (mycompany, say, not the whole link). Website is the exception: there’s no prefix, so type the complete address.

X still shows up as Twitter in the admin and uses a twitter.com prefix. Existing twitter.com links still resolve to X, so nothing here is broken — just named differently.

Steps

1. Open App Setup

  1. In the WordPress admin, go to Mobile App Mgr → App Setup.

2. Enter your account URLs

  1. Open the Social Accounts tab and find the Social Media Features panel (it appears under an Account Information heading).
  2. For each network you want to use, type your account into its text box:
    • For Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter (X), and YouTube, enter only the part that follows the prefix shown next to the box (your handle, username, or page name).
    • For Website, enter the full URL.
  3. Leave any network you don’t want to use blank. An empty field just won’t produce a working button.
  4. Click Save Changes (the submit button at the bottom of the panel) to store the URLs.

Not sure whether a field wants a handle, a page name, or a full link? Each ? help icon next to it spells out exactly what that network expects.

3. Add a Social Media button

A saved URL by itself does nothing — users still need a button to tap. Here’s how to add one:

  1. Choose a placement — the Home Page tab (the main grid of buttons) or the Left Menu tab (the slide-out drawer). For a full walkthrough of adding and arranging buttons, see Add a new screen (button) to your app.
  2. Add a new button and set its Content Type to Social Media.
  3. A content-source dropdown appears, starting on Select Social Media Account…. Pick the network this button links to — Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter (X), YouTube, or Website.
  4. Give the button a name and an icon as you would for any other button.
  5. Repeat for each network you want a separate button for. You typically add one Social Media button per network.

4. Save and preview

  1. Save your button changes.
  2. Use the Previewer App tab (or your previewer app) to confirm each button appears and opens the right account.
  3. When everything looks right, publish/push your app config so the buttons go live.

How it fits together

Here’s what’s happening behind the scenes: the URL you enter for each network is stored as its own setting, and the Social Media button reads that setting when you publish. The button only gets a working destination when its matching URL is there — a built-in safeguard that keeps an empty, unconfigured network from showing up as a dead button in your app. That’s why the order matters: enter the URL first, then add the button.

This same Social Media building block shows up elsewhere in the app too — as a row of social icons on a listing’s detail screen, for instance — so the account URLs you set here do more work than just powering the standalone home-screen buttons.

Troubleshooting

  • My Social Media button doesn’t show in the app. Chances are the matching account URL is empty. Head back to Social Media Features, fill in that network, save, and republish.
  • The button shows but opens the wrong/blank page. Double-check what you typed in the URL field. For prefixed networks, enter only the handle or page name — not the full link, since that doubles up with the prefix and breaks the URL. For Website, you do need the full address.
  • I entered a URL but no button appears anywhere. Entering a URL alone doesn’t create a button — you still need to add one with Content Type → Social Media and pick that network (Step 3).
  • Add a new screen (button) to your app — the general button builder this relies on.
  • Set up the bottom tab bar for your app — if you want a social link in the tab bar instead of the grid.
  • Design your home screen layout with Layout Manager — arranging where buttons sit.

What’s next

Once your social buttons are in place, run through Clear the pre-publish readiness checklist before you publish — that way the new buttons ship along with the rest of your app config.
